Three-year jail term for knifepoint robbery
A SWANSEA man has been sent to prison for stealing a woman's handbag at knifepoint in a terrifying street robbery.
John Edward Mylan targeted victim Sian Thomas in the city's Mount Pleasant area in February.
When arrested, he was found in possession of a mobile phone stolen from a female student in another mugging.
Mylan, aged 22, of Rodney Street, Sandfields, was jailed for three years at Swansea Crown Court after pleading guilty to offences of robbery and handling stolen goods.
Jailing Mylan, Judge Eleri Rees told him: "This was a terrifying incident for your victim. It's clear she's been left very frightened and worried about her safety in the area where she lives."

“As the victim of this crime, I'm satisfied with the sentence handed out to Mylan. What I'm not happy about, is the fact that he will probably be released on licence in 18 months time. That's not the judge's fault - blame the Home Office, their lenient attitude to sentencing, and their failure to provide enough prison places. It's why we have so much scum walking our streets today, threatening innocent people in their own neighbourhoods..”
