TERRY, not his real name, is a 42-year-old father-of-one, with a steady job. He has experimented with many drugs over the past 20 years, but it was not until his 40th birthday that he first tried Meow Meow. This is his story:

"It was my birthday, and I was looking forward to celebrating it.

"I was out with a younger friend, who told me he had some meow meow.

"I took a few lines, and it felt quite chemically, and like I was sniffing cut glass, but it was quite strong, and I got a good buzz out of it. But the problem started some time later when I smoked a joint. I've smoked a fair bit of cannabis in my time, but suddenly, I started to feel really bad.

"My heart was thumping, and waves of really unpleasant intoxication started coming over me.

"When I got home I told my wife I didn't feel very well, and eventually told her she would have to call an ambulance.

"They took me to hospital, but because the drug was new and not well known, the doctors told me they could not do anything for me. I told them I had the reaction after I'd smoked the joint, and they said they could not give me any other drugs in case there was another, adverse reaction.

"They let me go the following morning, and basically told me to act my age, and not be so stupid. I have maximum respect for them and what they did for me. I couldn't get out of bed for a week, and couldn't go into work.

"I have taken a lot of drugs over 20 years, and have never had problems. I would argue that if many illegal drugs were decriminalised, people would not be considering taken this man-made rubbish.

"I still felt bad for three to four months afterwards. It affected me in a way I never anticipated. I felt anxious, and I suffered a loss of confidence.

"Even cups of coffee or smoking a cigarette would make me feel ill again, in a way they never, ever did before.

"If there's one good thing that came from the experience, it is that I don't touch anything any more. I've only just started to have the odd beer.

"But it is a horrible drug, and it was probably the worst experience of my life. I feel an idiot I could have left my child without a father.

"There is a debate to be had over the legalisation of drugs. Maybe meow meow would not be as popular as it is if other recreational drugs were legally available, drugs which are far, far less dangerous, and meow meow would not be causing the damage it does.

"It is nasty, scary, man-made chemical and I wish I had never, ever touched it."

“Most of the money spent on rehab etc,is directed towards alcoholics. While most drug projects rely on donations and volunteers.By the way i also worked and paid my taxes.I am not"scum"or"a drug fuelled idiot"not now or when i was on drugs. Most people don't choose to be an addict, but circumstances can dictate the path of one's life.It could be bereavement,or suffering years of abuse off the people who were meant to be caring for them. There are many other reasons that can get a person so low that sometimes it is easier to take something to forget, rather than end one's life.Sometimes people find themselves in a position where they seem like the only options open to them.”

“philosoraptor - glad you agree. Think its time to leave the drug fueled idiots to it as they will never understand. I am amazed at da4dim's comment about there never being a victim of his 'crime'. Perhaps not his but I feel a victim given the amount of my well earned salary which goes in taxes to hospitals, drug rehabilitation programmes etc etc and could be better spent on those who find themselves requiring support through no fault of their own.”

“I find it laughable that there are people here who are condoning drugs, I think the police need to find out who these users are to see if they are using these narcotics... and jail them if they are. The quality of comments and ratings on SWEP would increase exponentially because only a drug crazed psychopath would mark down a great technological implementation to find missing children who were abducted.

If I am honest, I think most people on these boards are drug fuelled dregs of our society. The fact of the matter is there is no support for illegal narcotics from non-drug abusing people. I will accept no other explanation why people would promote breaking the law with such enthusiasm and also, I will never support people who do not want little April to never be found. So many people on here are scum, and should be locked away for betterment of mankind.

Intelligent, I am with you all the way on this. These others are likely hard core criminals as they don't only support drug crime, but many other forms as well.”

“So you still dont get the fact that alcohol is LEGAL and drugs are ILLEGAL - not sure how anyone can argue against that but there you go. I am one of the very few poeple on here who obviously can see the difference between right and wrong. My comments had nothing to do with victims but teh fact that people who take drugs see nothing wrong in boasting about it on here yet it is illegal and therefore these peoples judgement as to what is right and what is wrong is obviously clouded.”

“intelligent?"I really dont get why it is acceptable as after all it is ILLEGAL - and the comparison with alcohol ends there".I am not very academic in fact i never went to school much(to my regret),but i am intelligent enough to realise that your comment is ridiculously stupid.I think it is called a contradiction of terms, although i suppose you know that being intelligent yourself. The comparison is all but "ILLEGAL",your so stupid i am not wasting any more of my time on someone who is obviously un-educatable.How does it make you feel, that every"druggie"who makes a comment on here,is more intelligent than"intelligent"himself?”

“mr un-intelligent,yet again you seem to be missing the point,i have been a victim of burglary, and i also know girls who have been victims of rape.I have yet to meet a victim of my drug use other than myself and my family,of which none would like to see me punished for it.And it seems your defence of alcohol is based on your own use, judging by your typing errors last night which seem to have improved today, although you still seem to be in a different time zone to the rest of us.The tide is turning as more and more academics and medic's,politicians, and people respectable positions are waking up to the facts.Maybe you will too, because you don't seem to recognise the facts, maybe you just jump on the bandwagon of other peoples points of veiw.”
