IT upgrade a 'failure'
A COMPUTER system upgrade at Swansea Council was branded a failure by the cabinet member of finance.
Labour councillor Rob Stewart said the Service@Swansea programme signed off by the Liberal Democrat administration in 2004 was supposed to deliver £26.3 million in savings.
"It delivered almost nothing like that," said Mr Stewart, who claimed the figure was "barely" £1million.
He said: "If that is not failure, I don't know what is."

The council pledged a £2.9million IT renewal as part of the 2013/14 budget.
The Liberal Democrats did not challenge Mr Stewart about the Service@Swansea claims.

“I think the consultants they paid alot of money for should be taken to court and sued the millions that were lost. And as we all know, the IT company will have dragged their feet and squeezed every last penny from the council on purchasing frivolous things that were never needed at hugely inflated prices.
The council didn't seem to be punished though, how come those in power are still allowed in politics? I'd be sacked if I lost my company the best part of £80 million, and nobody would touch me in the industry.”

“peter 17776, You say the council is to blame and should be brought to account. Who is the council? The council is run by the councillors who happen to have been elected by the electorate. So by that measure it stands to reason that the lib/dem, independent and tory coalition that was running the council at the time of this wasted £80 MILLION are the ones to blame. Bear that in mind when next the local elections come around.”

“What annoys me is that Lib Dem Mary Jones who 'championed' this waste of money is still a councillor. She should be made to appear before an official enquiry and explain why Shambles@Swansea was ever allowed to happen.”

“They seem to spend millions on trial and error. Why not try doing some background research for a change? Actually, don't because that will waste our tax payers millions too”
