A tragic tale from Mumbles Railway's past
AS a former resident of Mumbles and Swansea I now live and teach in Devon.
I look at the "Post" website most days. I was interested to see the request for info on the Mumbles Railway.
I have supplied a copy of a transcript of an article from "The Cambrian" from 1868. This article was unearthed by my daughter Emma during research into my family history.
It tells the tragic tale of my Great Great Uncle Septimus McNamara (what a name, and it's genuine).
I will leave you to draw your own conclusions. I believe that had this occurred in modern times the verdict would have been very different.
The transcript is rather lengthy but is fascinating reading, It is a verbatim transcript that I made from a copy of the paper. Steve McNamara, Chudleigh, Devon.
