'I was only taking a paddle' drunken beach reveller tells police
A DRUNKEN beach party reveller who told police he was "only taking a paddle" sparked a major late-night rescue operation.
The man was part of a group of people on the beach near Swansea's Civic Centre when he got into trouble in the water just before 1am today.
Mumbles Inshore Lifeboat and Coastguard rescue team and an RAF helicopter were scrambled — though police fished him out before the helicopter was launched.
The incident was one of six call-outs for the Mumbles lifeboat in a busy 24-hour period.
Bernie Kemble, from Swansea Coastguard, said going into the sea after consuming alcohol was a recipe for disaster. He said: "The message is simple — drinking and swimming do not mix."

“IDIOT.
IDIOT with no respect for the sea.
IDIOT whose actions put the lives of his rescuers at risk.
I have NO sympathy for such UTTER IDIOTS - and actually feel strongly that they should be billed by the emergency services. £10,000 would be a good deterrent to other IDIOTS.
But hey - the summer;s a-coming so we can look forward to more IDIOT ADVENTURES in the sea this year. Hoorah! How many will drown d-ya think? Anyone want to start a book?”

“AJ, Uplands, I too saw her post. She is a disgusting vile piece of s**t! I only wish to God she would take her 'hate' regime back to bloody shanty town Harrow. The tragic deaths of someone's sons is sad enough without this evil devil ranting on regardless of HOW they lost their lives, drunk or not!”

“Heather from Mumbles states: "I'm glad he's safe - people need to have fun and unwind, its a shame when it goes wrong."
Yet, on another story where two young men drowned after "apparently being under the influence of alcohol", she callously disregarded others' feelings of sadness, stating "Why be sad, they were drunk?"!
Why couldn't your understanding of people needing to have fun and unwind extend to the two young men who lost their lives?”
