Can't escape extra costs

“My goodness, you would imagine we're spending the entire Assembly budget on the Welsh Language from the way these people harp on about it. The fact remains that there is NO well researched figure on the actual money spent on the language so these people are making unsubstantiated claims - they are not arguing from an informed position. I think they're inclined to present a rather inflated version of the situation. This leads me to wonder what is their agenda exactly?

I think the fact that their letters are overwhelmingly negative suggests that any figure would be unreasonable to them. They just want Cymraeg to be ignored. Sorry butt, you are part of Cymru wether you like it or not ... get over it!”

I see that you object to public money that is used in your words to prop up the Welsh language. don't people like you realise that The very word bilingual suggests something to do with TWO languages so any perceived cost of bilingualism should, surely, be shared between BOTH languages. A monolingual transcript of Assembly proceedings, in either language, would have a price tag attached. So how much of the £400K bilingual money is actually being spent on JUST the Welsh Language? tell me Does English come free of charge?. And by the way Mr Hinton the reason people write into the evening post in English is for the likes of yourself who can't read or write or communicate in Welsh just so that you can understand whats being said in your language english. With that being said why don't people like you talk about money spent on other language translation why don't people like you look at the £100m of public money which is spent on translation services in the UK, because the way I look at things is that there are just over 3,000,000 people living in Wales; The cost of translation has been estimated at £400,000, not a lot if you break it down into per person: per year ratio. So its not a massive waste of public money.you see unlike you and others Having a great love of our languages and cultures and, living as I do in Wales, I think its money well spent!”
