Ospreys call up big guns for Premiership test

THE Ospreys have named a strong squad for their friendly against a Welsh Premiership Select XV at Maesteg tomorrow (4).

They include 12 Welsh internationals in Lee Byrne, Shane Williams, Sonny Parker, James Hook, Duncan and Adam Jones, Huw Bennett, Alun Wyn Jones, Ian Gough, Ian Evans, Jonathan Thomas and Ryan Jones while new signing Tommy Bowe is set to make his second appearance for the region.

The squad is minus Gavin Henson (ankle ligaments), Mike Phillips (anterior cruciate), Richard Hibbard (shoulder), Lyndon Bateman (back), Ben Lewis (knee) and Dan Biggar.

Coach Sean Holley says the game is a perfect time for his players to get used to the new Experimental Law Variations which have come into the game.

"Saturday's game is an important part of our pre-season preparations and another opportunity for our players to experience the new Experimental Law Variations and some competitive action," said Holley.

"The players have worked hard throughout the summer and have trained right the way through our two pre-season fixtures in preparation for a long season.

"It is also an opportunity for some of the Welsh Premiership's young talent to show what they can do and pitch themselves up against the current regional players."

For tomorrows game, supporters can purchase their tickets at the gate on match-day. All 2008/09 Ospreys season-ticket holders will benefit from free admission on presentation of their season ticket, while admission for non-season ticket holders is just £4 for adults and £2 for 12-16 year-olds, with under-12s going free.
