Legg pleased with point at champions

LLANELLI erased the memory of their 5-1 defeat at Rhyl last year as they held the Welsh Premier champions to a goalless draw at Belle Vue.

It was an action-packed encounter that could have gone either way, both sides hitting the woodwork twice with a host of other chances going unclaimed.

Reds player-manager Andy Legg said: "Both sides hit the woodwork and both will feel they could have won the game. I'm happy with a point.

"The lads were far more focused this time. We did not want a repeat of last season's hammering."

Goalkeeper Ashley Morris was Llanelli's star man, saving brilliantly early on from Mark Connolly and denying lively Chris Williams several times in the second period.

Mattie Williams cracked an early effort onto the bar for Rhyl, who dominated large passages of play.

But the Reds had their moments. A brilliant move involving Owain Warlow and Legg ended with the player-manager sending a superb cross to Rhys Griffiths, whose header cannoned off the crossbar.

Legg hit the far post direct from a corner, while Connolly's late header also hit the woodwork as the Lilywhites frantically sought a winner.

But Llanelli frustrated them and now face another severe test of their title credentials on Sunday when The New Saints visit Stebonheath Park.
