Medical checks have confirmed the seriousness of the dislocated shoulder injury he sustained playing in the second Test against South Africa as a result of a dangerous charge from Springbok lock Bakkies Botha.
It means the region will have to play at least four Heineken Cup ties and close on half a Magners League programme without their scrummaging anchor.
And it will provide a major headache for Wales coach Warren Gatland.
The most capped Welsh tight-head of all-time, Jones has returned from South Africa with his reputation hugely enhanced after taming Tendai 'The Beast' Mtawarira, the Springbok prop who had given Phil Vickery such a torrid time a week earlier.
