Teens admit attack on innocent victim
Eighteen-year-old Stephen Robert Powell, from Chemical Road in Morriston, and a 16-year-old Morriston youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted assaulting the man near the town's fire station.
Swansea Magistrates' Court heard that the victim, Lee Carpenter, had been on a night out in Morriston and was walking home at around 1.50am.
As he passed a takeaway, members of a gang congregating outside shouted "That's him!" and began to follow him.
Around half-a-dozen people — including the two defendants — caught up with Mr Carpenter near the Sway Road fire station and launched a vicious assault, punching him to the ground.
The court was told that after the beating a witness heard one of the gang say, "Sorry, we have the wrong person".
Mr Carpenter suffered a hairline fracture to his shoulder in the attack, which happened in the early hours of August 29.
Powell was released on bail until January 4, when he will be sentenced.
The 16-year-old was dealt with in youth court.
He was released on unconditional bail and will be sentenced on January 8.
