Detective Sergeant Steve Phillips said: "While I am unable to go into any great detail of the offences as it may affect any future prosecutions, it would be suffice to say the incidents both inside and outside the Railway Inn were particularly frightening."
In excess of 400 South Wales Police officers were on duty on November 7 in and around the Liberty Stadium, where Swansea beat their arch-rivals 3-2 in a Coca-Cola Championship clash, which kicked off at the early time of 12.45pm.
Following the match, a crowd of 200 to 300 people congregated at the Siloh Road area of Landore, under the railway bridge.
Police said around 40 officers, wearing riot gear, were in the vicinity to deal with violent disorder lasting around an hour.
Sixteen people have already been identified and arrested following the match-day disturbance, all of whom are currently on police bail.
More arrests are now likely.
Trouble also flared in the Siloh Road area following last season's two home derbies against Cardiff — one in the league and one in the Carling Cup — although the vast majority of fans behaved well.
Mr Phillips said: "I am appealing to anyone who is able to assist us in identifying any of these people to come forward."
