THE non-travelling travellers — what a complete and utter fiasco this has become.

It's like a script from Mrs Brown's Boys but without the humour

This all started when the travellers parked in front of a well-known accountants and solicitors.

It took them 18 months to get them removed and then one of our councillors give them verbal permission, apparently on the spur of the moment, to park on land that was developed as a park and ride.

That's why Swansea council lost a court case to remove them later.

Then the stalling by the last Lib Dem coalition hanging it out knowing it would be passed to the next administration!

And now we have a situation where the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.

You could not make this up.

The reality of it all is Swansea East was always going to get that second site! We have had to put up with this situation for years

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would say enough is enough but certainly not the case with "our" councillors!

And for those who are not sure of our situation in Llansamlet and Morriston: we have an official site at the rear of Asda, another so-called unofficial site on the now unused park and ride, there are caravans parked on the old B&Q site and more at the rear of Morrisons on the old ski slope and they are the ones that are obviously visible.

Planning has been submitted for a site in Birchgrove!

The Enterprise Park is a large retail development with plots of land for sale. How much encouragement do business people need to go elsewhere?

My advice to all those people living around the five sites being considered is to remember the treachery

The second site should not even have been considered for at least 10 miles away from Morriston and Llansamlet.

“I appreciate the fact that Councilors hands are manacled (for want of a better word) through Government and European regulations, but it's a bit ripe when politics is used to promote an area for a future Gypsy/Itinerant site, just because there's one here already. (in their eyes) It's blatantly obvious that there are areas throughout Swansea, that would never ever be used for this purpose at any cost, purely and entirely because of their post code, though one wonders if any councilors/ law department personnel (past & present) have a voice in this being so! It's about time that Morriston and Llansamlet was used for it's original purpose as a retail park, encouraging out of town shopping, their rates are high enough to warrant some form of compensation to retailers striving to make a living here. Gypsies/Itinerants do not want to know how to behave within the law, they drive customers, because customers don't wish to be intimidated by uncouth behavior when out shopping, hence the introduction of City Wardens. If Wardens are good enough for our City centre then it's good enough for Morriston & Llansamlet. I hope the residents/retailers make in roads by addressing their situation, along with our City councilors of course.”

“The undoing of this juggling act by Swansea Council is that it is the gypsies who will have the final say in what site they are given. I can't see them agreeing to being stuck on a hillside by the motorway.”
