Meg: Chick flick was a blast

Meg Ryan has described working on her new film The Women as "truly, truly fun".

The actress joined a star-studded female cast for the movie, including Annette Bening, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith and Bette Midler.

At the LA premiere last night, Meg said the actresses had a blast during filming - particularly during Debra Messing's labour scene.

"Any day we were all together. We all loved Debra giving birth. She'd do something and we would all run to the monitor to see her veins pop out of her temple."

She added: "It was truly truly fun. These are smart articulate, opinionated, silly women. And it was great to sit in our make up trailer or director's chair and talk to one another about anything."

The film, directed by Diane English, focuses on Meg's character's battle with her cheating husband's mistress - and the support she receives from her female friends.

"I like the story. It's a movie about what happens when girlfriends break up, and I think a lot of women have had bumps in their friendships that are very significant in their lives.

"I think Diane was interested in saying that, to women, your peers are important to you."
