Speaking at a special BAFTA party in Los Angeles, he said: "I think she missed out, I also think So You Think You Can Dance missed out a little bit."
Nigel stars alongside Cat as a judge on the programme which has become a massive hit in the States.
The American dance reality show holds auditions in major cities across the US looking for the top dancers in each city.
For the first time ever, this year's Emmys gave out an award for best reality show host. But Nigel struggled to disguise his disappointment: "I think Cat is probably one of the best hosts I've ever worked with and I think slowly she'll be recognised here in this country and in years to come she'll be there."
The former dancer reflected: "[The show] got nominated for four Emmys in the creative category, I do think now it's come of age and it's certainly good enough to be there in the reality competition."
