"I Kissed a Girl was inspired when I opened up a magazine and I saw a picture of Scarlett Johansson," she tells the latest issue of Steppin' Out magazine.
"I was with my boyfriend at the time, and I said to him, 'I'm not going to lie - if Scarlett Johansson walked into the room and wanted to make out with me, I would make out with her," adds the 23-year-old. "I hope you're okay with that?"
These days, Katy is in a steady relationship with Travis McCoy, singer with band Gym Class Heroes, who she's been dating for the past three years.
I Kissed A Girl topped the US charts for seven weeks, launching the California born former gospel singer into the international spotlight. It has also bagged her the No 1 spot in Canada, Australia and the UK.
