Empty seats bad for FA

South Wales Evening Post

SOME weeks ago I wrote to Hugh Robertson, the Minister for Sport, to see if he could influence the FA into releasing more seats for Swansea and Bradford supporters at Wembley.

I explained that the 30,000 seats retained for corporate hospitality and other spectators with perhaps only a passing interest in the match could not be justified when so many genuine supporters were left disappointed.

He did not respond, although I wasn't surprised in view of his comments to those who had lost funding after the Olympic Games.

What was disturbing was the number of unoccupied seats at the match which so easily could have been allocated to those so desperate to attend the final.

“Many Swans fans missed out on seats due tothe corpoarte allocation and SCFC allocation policy. I believe any corpoate seats that are not collected two weeks prior to the game should then be sold. to see so many empty seats was heart breaking as I could not get a ticket. This brings me on to SCFC policy. Yes, season ticket holders should get priority, but there should have been some tickets retained for general sale. No matter how they were allocated they would have sold. I have follwed the swans all over the country. I remember only seven of us at a midweek away match in Brentford and when we struggled to get 1500 at the vetch. But, because i cant afford a season ticket I missed out on our greatest day. Huw Jenkins and co. have done a wonderfull job with our little club but please don't forget the loyal fans who helped put us there.Rant Over!”

“I am not surprised this person didn't respond to you, they do not like to be seen talking to be common dirty peasants that we workers are.”
