Shaw was released by English Championship side Bristol at the end of last season after proving a firm favourite with fans at The Memorial Ground.

Capped twice by the Eagles, he has been named in America's provisional 36-man squad for the forthcoming World Cup.

Scrum-half is a position where the Scarlets need to strengthen for next term.

With Wales cap Martin Roberts having moved to Northampton Saints and first-choice Tavis Knoyle pushing for a place on the plane as part of Wales's World Cup squad, resources are being stretched at half-back.

Gareth Davies showed his potential with some impressive displays for the region in the Magners League last season, while another Wales Under-20 cap Aled Davies is also highly rated.

However, Aled Davies is still recovering from a major knee operation and doubts remain as to whether he will be fit for the start of the RaboDirect PRO12 campaign.

The Scarlets begin their on-field preparations against Rotherham on August 13 before heading to France for a week-long training camp culminating in a match against Top 14 heavyweights Clermont Auvergne.

Aviva Premiership side Exeter Chiefs are the region's final opponents at Sandy Park on August 27, a week before the league opener against Aironi at Parc y Scarlets.

The complete dates and kick-off times for the opening weeks of the PRO12 season are expected to be announced this week.
