VIEWS are being invited on the treatment of animals in Wales before they are slaughtered.

The Welsh Government is carrying out a public consultation into the conditions of animals before they are killed, to ensure there is no reduction in existing welfare standards, and to improve the welfare of animals slaughtered for religious purposes.

Around 49 million poultry and almost four million sheep are killed annually in Wales.

The Welsh Government wants to ensure livestock are provided with freedom from discomfort, pain, injury, fear and distress, and are able to express normal behaviour.
