MEMBERS of Gorseinon Town Council have been reassured that its local fire service is fit for purpose.

Richard Webborn, head Swansea Command for the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service gave a 40 minute presentation to the council on fire service provision in the Gorseinon and Penyrheol area.

Town clerk John Millard said: "He offered reassurances regarding the future of the Gorseinon base and clarified the current regime the firemen were operating within, including a five year improvement plan."

Mr Webborn outlined how the town council could help fire officers in getting fire safety messages across to the community.

The mayor, Malcolm Curtice, suggested that the council helps deliver a fire safety message.

Mr Millard said: "The mayor indicated the council newsletter could be utilised to contact every local household, an offer which Richard Webborn gratefully accepted."
