It's going to be fantastic
HERE is this week's exiting blog for Hairspray! Enjoy!
Rehearsals are going to be really hard this week, we have been told it's all going to be stamina-based, meaning it's going to take a lot of energy, so I better make sure I have my breakfast and keep myself fit.
9.30am- Woke up, rehearsals don't start until 11.30am, but I wanted to be up early to make sure I am ready for the day ahead. After getting dressed and having cereal I looked over my script and routines, before leaving for class. Today's class is going to be fun!
11.30am- Class begins with a energetic game to get our bodies ready for the hard rehearsal ahead. We played 'Off Ground Touch'; we all have 5 seconds to run to somewhere that's off ground without being caught. It gets kind of hard when you start to run out of places to go! That's why it's fun though!
We started the rehearsal with my song and routine, 'Run and Tell That', This is one of the hardest in the show because it takes a lot of stamina to sing, dance and act at the same time, and this routine is not easy either. We have to practice, practice, practice to make sure we don't run out of breath whilst performing the number. The director Mark, asked us to do the number four times in a row, this was a big test to see how fit we actually were! Surprisingly my fitness has improved; I think this is because I have been rehearsing at home singing and dancing together. Now I am very pleased that it has started to pay off.
The other routine we practiced was 'You Can't Stop the Beat'. This is the finale of the show and is 7 minutes long. This is a real test of stamina for everyone! Even though this is hard it is possibly the most fun routine in the show, which helps when having to keep up the energy. We practiced this routine about three times straight after each other, It was very hard, and took up a lot of energy, but I couldn't help wanting to do it again, because it is so much fun!
Notes we had from the director this week was that we needed to be more accurate and precise with movements and direction. Next week will have to focus on getting detail in to the show - small things like straight arms and pointed feet. Mark says that the detail is what makes the show a great show!
I am really excited for next week's rehearsal now, and will be constantly going through my character and dances and thinking of the detail to make sure I am ready for next week's rehearsal!..... Today was so much fun and I know that this show is going to be fantastic if was all work together and listen to what we need to work on individually!
