Who is in the running so far. . .
CANDIDATES can stand for election as police and crime commissioner on a party political basis or as an independent.
So far only Labour have selected candidates in the four Welsh police force areas, including Cardiff South MP member of the Home Affairs Select Committee Alun Michael in South Wales, and former AM and Rural Affairs Minister Christine Gwyther in Dyfed-Powys.
Two independent candidates have put their names forward for the South Wales Police commissioner role — Cardiff-based Antonio Verderame, who has worked for firms including Fiat and Alfa Romeo as well as running his own companies, and Cardiff policeman-turned-solicitor Mike Baker.
Falklands War veteran Simon Weston did enter the race as a high profile independent candidate before withdrawing saying commissioners had become "too political".

No candidates from Swansea or Neath Port Talbot have yet declared their candidacy.
In the Dyfed-Powys Police area the only person to confirm they will be standing for election against the Labour candidate is John Davies, former leader of Pembrokeshire Council, though Mr Davies has not yet decided whether to stand for a political party or as an independent.
