POLICE say the message about the illegal use of off-road vehicles in Neath and Port Talbot's rural areas appears to have been driven home.

They joined forces with the Raft off-road team to carry out patrols in the Tonmawr, Pontrhydyfen and Cwmavon areas, including the Foel and Baglan mountains.

"It appears the message got through as no off-road vehicles were found," said a police spokesman. "There was on vehicle parked just off the Bwlch Road and there was evidence visible that this vehicle had been used to transport an off road vehicle to the area. However, no bikes were seen or heard."

He added officers spoke to numerous walkers to provide reassurance. "Additional patrols will be carried out," he added.
