What the regions are saying about Mike Phillips
AS Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips ponders his next move following his departure from Bayonne, we look at where he might end up.
"I would think it unlikely the Ospreys would be in for Mike. I've coached him one to one and I love his competitive spirit and what he's done in his career speaks for itself. But we're comfortable with our Welsh scrum-half resources, plus Tito Tebaldi.
"Mike certainly won't have trouble finding a new club. He would fit certain game plans perfectly. I think there'd be a lot of coaches who'd be keen to have him."
Gruff Rees, Ospreys assistant coach
"Mike is a fantastic, experienced player and a lot of sides would be very keen to have that experience in their ranks.
We have three really good scrum-halves and are struggling to give them enough game time at the moment, so if we add another one in there it becomes difficult to manage. Scrum-half is a position where we are pretty comfortable at the moment.
"But he has probably got plenty of options."
Simon Easterby, Scarlets' head coach
"We’ve got four nines.
"We need to be looking to strengthen our squad. Richie Rees has had a good season so far – he’s a very good player.
"But we wouldn’t say no. We would have to look at the possibility...and I think we are the only region Mike hasn’t played for."
"Mike's a great player but we have got our No. 9."
Phil Davies, Blues' director of rugby
