Is this really top priority?
IN response to the letter from A H Lloyd of Llanelli (Post, September 24), I agree that there should be open debate on public spending priorities especially in relation to the promotion of the Welsh language. I say "bring on the facts," make the public aware of how much is being spent on unnecessary bilingual correspondence, translation and road signs. It is much better that the public is informed so that people can make their own judgements as to the merits of the expenditure.
However, I strongly disagree with Mr Lloyd's assertion that there isn't a pro-Welsh lobby. Has he not heard the many Cymdeithas yr laith Cymraeg protests which included acts of criminal damage to aggressively pursue its cause? I should add I am not anti-Welsh, but I am concerned that far too much public money is being spent on what is a minority language.

“Max-a-moron! You don't like the truth facts or reality do you again we get more talking out of your backside!. More BS! more hot air .!Only someone who has no sense of national identity would utter this nonsense. You support free speech alright your own narrow-minded one just another xenophobic type one that could be taken to be racist. I You don't hear welsh speakers attacking the English language or its use in Wales no it's the opposite that's the argument you get from the small minded English speaking welsh racist bigots the run of the mill type! you can read them like a book.I'm not saying this with an indignant tone, just simply stating the facts...I was born speaking English but learnt welsh from the age of ten and have a great respect for both languages. It's the continuing use and existence of the Welsh language, I think, that so infuriates the Anglo centric mind; and may it continue. ;)”

“Muckywind another outburst like that and I think we'll have to ask Dr Kopfbanger to have another look at you. May I suggest you go back to school, forget all about the Welsh language and learn how to communicate in English - because you are making a pretty poor show of doing that!
If you want to continue with your racist hate filled diatribes than please carry on - I support free speech- but please don't think anyone is taking you seriously.”

“A Jones along with all the others who complain about what's being spent on bilingual correspondence, translation and road signs in Wales and the money spent are in my opinion just a bunch of ignorant fools .isn't Its funny that these same people are never heard of when money is being spent across the border in England being that the uk that's all 4 nations are supposed to be broke and we get told that there are public spending priorities yet we were able to waste some 25 billion that's right 25 billion pounds of tax payers money on the 2012 London Olympics what a waste of money, that could be spent on hundred's of more worthy things that a few weeks of sport/TV spectacle and what about the spectacle, of the Queen's Jubilee celebrations - at a cost of tens of million GBP. . can you hear the pin drop! with the anti-welsh language brigade on here? these are the real facts not the fiction we get from you lot about the peanuts spent on our birth right our language. I think some of the anti-language prejudices stem from a wish to see these things in a negative light, just people with an agenda a wish to see the Welsh language as a negative thing in Wales etc. which it isn't I have come to realise that some of you are backward in your thinking. You're no better than a racist in respect to the language - you take a stance, to justify your clear hatred of the language' and will try and form that into a negative thing online. You have no interest in reality, in the truth only in justifying most of your own narrow-minded hatred and lack of tolerance. I have no time for people who try to 'win' a debate by drowning it in semantics. If you want to debate facts let's deal with facts. Not anti-welsh language BS! So far these are lacking with most of you hence the removal of my patience.”

“Think it would be very unfair to stop providing English translations, afterall how would those who do not speak, read or write Welsh be expected to be able to participate equaly within society. Consider the translation services are a neccessary expense so as to provide for equality and social inclusion, the mere fact that someone who is resident in Wales does not understand the language of that nation should not be a barrier to their inclusion. It would be discriminatory, not to provide access to bilingual services for those who do not speak the language of the nation. In fact all - who wish or wanted to, should have the right and opportunity to be able to learn to speak, read and write Welsh.”

“No A Jones your not anti Welsh, Just anti Welsh language. At what do U want to do about road signs, turn them all back into English only. Perhaps A Jones would be better spending his time trying to address the problems of Townhill, one of the poorest and most deprived places in the whole of Europe, rather than worrying about the Welsh language. Oh don''t tell me he wants the funds being transferred from the language towards himself and his neighbors.”
