BRENDAN Rodgers has paid tribute to his players after picking up the Barclays Manager of the Month Award for January.

Rodgers picked up the award, his first since guiding Swansea City into the top flight last May, following a month in which his team defeated Arsenal and Aston Villa and took a point off Chelsea.

"I'm very proud." he said. "However, the award should be renamed Team of the Month.

"My players have been incredible in their courage to gain results while defending our footballing principles.

"The award recognises a lot of hard work by many people and we aim to continue our challenge to retain our status in this wonderful league."

The winner was selected by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans.

Swansea began January by registering their first away win of the campaign at Villa Park, but their breathtaking defeat of Arsenal, shown live on Sky, proved the high point of the month.

    “Well deserved.

HJ, do you have any reason to explain why BR hasn't signed the contract on offer. Time to be frugal yes - you have proven that - and time to realise that BR is going to be offered a far bigger job before too long unless you and he puts pen to paper.

Is it down to you or BR? One of you should say something to clarify the present position.

Someone is either being greedy or incredibly tight it seems. My money is on the tight person getting it wrong.”
