'£5bn tax evasion'
AS many people across Wales send in their tax returns today, Oxfam Cymru has claimed that tax evasion is depriving the UK economy of more than £5 billion a year.
The charity said the sum was for tax illegally evaded by individuals only. Official UK Government figures put the complete tax gap — from companies and those (legally) avoiding as well as (illegally) evading tax — at £32 billion a year.
"Austerity measures are hitting the poorest people in Wales hardest, but it wouldn't have to be like this if the rich paid their taxes in full," said Julian Rosser, head of Oxfam Cymru.

“If all the people paid all their taxes in full, believe me, nothing would change for the average population. The money would disappear in some dark holes or would go to fight other people's wars or whatever.
Tax avoidance and evasion is not a question of morals as some want to make us believe, but simply a matter of good quality accounting.
As for the austerity measures: there IMO the government get it wrong. They alledgedly cut and save etc. but keep "printing" money and can't get the amount of money they have to borrow down.
There is definitely something massively wrong.
But one can't blame companies(and their highly paid accountants) for the mistakes of the government.”
