£250k to revamp Swansea's former Central Library site
A MULTI-MILLION pound project to redevelop Swansea's former Central Library site in Alexandra Road has been funded to the tune of £250,000 by the Welsh Government.
The city's Metropolitan University received the funding through the Government's Swansea Regeneration Programme for the £8 million project to create a new home for the university's schools of glass and industrial design.

Housing Regeneration and Heritage Minister Huw Lewis announced the latest round of funding during a visit to the university's business school campus and said: "Swansea Metropolitan's plans for the library are ambitious and along with the university's other city centre facility, Swansea Business School, will make a significant contribution to the regeneration of the city centre as well ensuring that the buildings are accessible, both in terms of location and physical access, and inviting welcoming places in which both students and the local community can learn.
"I am very pleased that Welsh Government Regeneration Area funding is being put to such good use to benefit so many people and improve the city centre."

Professor David Warner, Swansea Met Senior Provost, said: "This is a prime example of Victorian architecture and conservation of its appearance is key to the development work. We will retain the grandeur of the building's original facade, ensuring any new additions complement the original design. From the day it first opened in 1887 the building has served as a beacon of educational enlightenment for the people of Swansea.
"This development will ensure that the university maintains this great tradition of providing first class education as well as helping to move the economy forward ."
