THE Welsh Government is expected to set aside £20 million for apprenticeships.

On Tuesday AMs will debate the government's draft budget for 2012/14 and extra cash is being made available to help boost jobs.

A joint statement from First Minister Carwyn Jones and Plaid leader Leanne Wood said: "We have agreed that an additional £20 million will be reflected in the Draft Budget to be debated on Tuesday, November 13, which would be put into supporting apprenticeships in Wales, targeted especially at those in the 16-24 age group. Opportunities to supplement Welsh Government resources with the maximum amount of EU funding will be sought. We will also ensure a further £20 million will be included in the indicative figures for 2014/15 for apprenticeship schemes.

"The exact schemes that the money will support will be determined by the Welsh Labour Government, in consultation with Plaid Cymru."

“An excellent example why both the assembly and the EU do a great job. Although i do wonder if such funds will be available in the years to come after Labour MP's voted to educe the amount of money that the EU has to spend.”
