'Sign up now for new Santa Jog'

Wednesday, October 01, 2008, 09:00

IT will be ready, steady, ho, when 700 joggers dressed as Santa get together to raise cash for charity this Christmas.

The second British Heart Foundation (BHF) Santa Jog was launched in the Marina yesterday, and the charity is now calling for volunteers to walk, jog or run the 2km course.

Last year's Santa Jog was such a success that this year the number of Father Christmases involved has increased by 200.

Kevin Johns enjoyed taking part last year so much he will be back on again on Sunday, December 14, to kick-start the event and jog.

The Swansea Sound breakfast show host will be helping the crowd warm up with an aerobic session, with the help of staff from Penyrheol Leisure Centre.

He said: "This is a great event. The sight of hundreds of Santas running along the Waterfront together is amazing.

"My grandfather died from an undiagnosed heart condition, so I know how important it is to support the BHF."

BHF's event organiser in Wales, Mali James said: "The event is based on a first to register basis, so I urge everyone to sign up now to avoid disappointment."
