A YOUNG schoolboy broke his leg after he was in a collision with a passing car.

The year seven pupil was attempting to climb aboard a mini-bus in De La Beche Road, outside Bishop Gore School last Wednesday. He was taken by ambulance to Morriston Hospital for treatment.

Bishop Gore head teacher Ryan Davies said: "The boy broke his leg but there are no other serious injures, and he is on the mend.

"He had attempted to enter the minibus which was picking him up by using the door facing the traffic. This has highlighted to us the importance of safe parking in the De La Beche Road area. It is a notorious stretch of road because it is a very busy thoroughfare."

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "We are investigating a road traffic collision in De La Beche Road, Sketty, on Wednesday, at around 3.45pm, when a 12-year-old boy was in collision with a silver coloured Mazda car."
