Scarlets' gameplan may go out the window

NIGEL Davies admits the Scarlets may have to abandon their usual tactics in order to scrap it out with Connacht tonight.

The Scarlets head to Ireland expecting a real fight against Michael Bradley's side as they go in search of only their third victory in the Magners League this season.

After battling to an 18-3 home victory against the Dragons last week, Davies reckons his side will need to show the same spirit tonight if they plan to turn over Connacht.

The struggling Irish region are rock bottom in the standings, with just a solitary home win over the Blues to show for their efforts in six outings.

But they tend to be a tricky test on home soil.

"It's a very difficult place to go to. The weather is pretty consistent — it's been awful every time we've been there," said Davies, who can expect more damp conditions tonight.

"We have played there a number of times and know what to expect. We have to be at the top of our game.

"We will play some smart and clever rugby at times because the pressure they put you under, you can't always look to play the game you want to.

"That was one of the pleasing aspects last week — conditions didn't allow us to play the style of rugby we wanted to in the first half, but we made too many errors. We changed what we were doing and we dominated the second half.

"This game will be very similar.

"We have a style we want to play — it has not always been easy to do that in Connacht for various reasons.

"The first thing we need to do is physically front up to them. If we do that then we have a chance.

"It is always a battle in Connacht. I'd like to say otherwise, and we'll certainly look to play differently and move away from them very quickly, but the reality is that it has been difficult to do that over the years — not only for us but every other team."
