Praise for modest marina hero
Julie Dower, who works in the marina office, was off-duty and walking with a friend at 3.30pm on Wednesday when she saw a woman trying to climb through the railings near the Waterfront Museum.
She went over to the 40-year-old and managed to calm her down and keep her safe until the emergency services arrived.
But the good Samaritan played down what she had done. She said: "She was threatening to jump in the water. I talked to her and tried to keep her calm ensuring that she could not enter the water until the police and ambulance arrived."
Ms Dower's efforts were praised by marina manager Steve Kern. He said: "I am delighted but not surprised that my staff responded in this way. The woman had clearly put her safety in danger and I am glad that they were able to help and comfort her."
