Leaders demanding booze ban to tackle yob culture
At their latest meeting, Pembrey and Burry Port town councillors heard about police efforts to combat under-age drinking in the town, including stop-checks on youngsters and confiscation of alcohol.
They also heard how one Llanelli teen had been found so "severely intoxicated" she had to be escorted home — resulting in officers being unable to remain on their beats for a considerable time period.
Councillor John James raised the prospect of a ban on boozing in public in the town.
He said: "I would like to see an alcohol ban in Burry Port.
"If we had one, there would be no drinking on the streets — so it would not matter if you were 12 or 92-years-old — if you were caught flouting the law, you would be fined by police. "We need the public's support on this to make it possible."
