Dad-of-six killed in motorbike accident

Monday, February 08, 2010, 16:38

A FATHER of six has died in a motorbike accident near his home town of Port Talbot.

Businessman and "wonderful" husband and dad Darren Campisi died of injuries sustained in the crash on the A48 in Margam on Friday afternoon.

No other vehicles were involved, and police are appealing for witnesses.

Although he lived in the Broadlands area of Bridgend, Mr Campisi was brought up in Port Talbot's Sandfields estate.

The 32-year-old former Sandfields Comprehensive School pupil leaves a wife, Marie Campisi, and six children aged six to 14.

Marie said, "He was a fantastic individual. He loved me and all the children with all his heart. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and son.

"We would like to thank all the kind people who stopped and assisted at the scene of this terrible accident."

On leaving school Mr Campisi attended Sea Cadets and later became the manager of the old Star Nightclub in Port Talbot.

Several years later, with his brother Dean, he set up a successful security firm known as Secure Serve supplying security guards across the country.

The company also sponsored several sporting organisations, including Aberavon Lifeguard Club, the West Glamorgan under-15 cricket team and Port Talbot AFC under-12s.

Mr Campisi's main life interests were his family, the business and riding both his jet skis and his motorbike.

At around 3.25pm on Friday he was riding a Honda Fireblade motorbike on the A48 at Margam when the accident happened around 100 metres east of the junction with Water Street.

A specialist police officer is supporting the family.

"Witnesses are sought to the collision and to the riding of the motorcycle concerned beforehand as it travelled with two others in a westbound direction along the A48 from Pyle towards Margam," said a police spokesman.

Witnesses are asked to contact either the roads policing unit on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
