OFF-LICENCES in Swansea have been targeted in a sting aimed at curbing booze-fuelled crime.

The Safer Swansea Partnership used a group of teenagers to see if city shops would sell them alcohol, despite them being under-age.

And the sting has netted results.

Three off-licences in Clase, Killay and Mumbles were caught selling alcohol illegally during the May operation.

The teens, who are not being identified, visited a total of nine off-licences, under the supervision of trading standards officers, police and three special constables.

Two of the three premises were handed on-the-spot fines and the licence-holder for the other has been called for interview.
