SWANSEA City have set their sights on Welsh international Brian Stock and Chelsea starlet Jack Cork as they seek a replacement for Leon Britton.

New boss Brendan Rodgers is hoping to make three signings before the Championship season kicks off a week on Saturday.

Key to his plans is a central midfielder to fill the void left by Britton, and Stock and Cork are the leading contenders to fill the little man's boots.

Swansea are thought to have inquired about buying Stock from Doncaster Rovers, while Cork would be interested in moving from Stamford Bridge, whether it be a loan or full-time move.

Stock, 28, is highly regarded at the Keepmoat Stadium, where he is an important cog in a side who, like Swansea, are renowned for playing good football.

But he is heading into the final year of his contract and Rovers could be tempted to sell if the right offer comes in.

Born in Winchester, Stock made his name at Bournemouth before joining Preston for £125,000 in January 2006.

He joined Doncaster on loan later that year having failed to hold down a first-team spot at Deepdale, and made the move permanent in a £150,000 deal in 2007.

He has since become a central figure for the Yorkshire club, helping them to promotion to the Championship alongside Swansea in 2008.

Premier League side Wolves were linked with the two-cap playmaker earlier this year, while League One heavyweights Southampton are thought to have declared an interest this summer.

Cork, meantime, is thought to be available having had a succession of loan spells already, most recently in the Premier League with Burnley.

Son of former Swansea boss Alan, the 20-year-old worked with Rodgers at Chelsea and then again at Watford, where he had a successful stint on loan in 2008-9.

Cork has also had temporary stints with Bournemouth, Scunthorpe — where he was named player of the year — Southampton and Coventry.

His father indicated earlier this summer that Cork was interested in leaving Chelsea because of a lack of first-team opportunities at the Bridge, and suggested that dropping into the Championship would not be an issue.

Cork, who has over a 100 league games under his belt, has played for the England Under-21s but has never featured in a competitive match for the Blues' first team.

A further midfield option for Swansea is Kemy Agustien, the trialist who is with Rodgers's squad on their Dutch pre-season tour.

“It¿s great to see some movement at last in getting in some fresh legs. It was obvious Sousa was more interested in his Summer holidays than the welfare of Swansea City. Don¿t forget we will have Dobbie back for the season (a direct result of Sousa leaving!) and if Prately stays we would should have the making of a good team. Now if only we could sell all the twaddle that Sousa brought in but I doubt any other team would want to buy!”
