A FORMER leader of Swansea Labour students has been elected chairman of the party's UK-wide youth wing.

Simon Darvill, who was recently secretary of the Swansea West Constituency Labour Party (CLP), is now chairman of the organisation known as Young Labour.

Mr Darvill has been a Labour member for almost a decade and remembers being "pushed around CND marches and canvassing sessions in my pram".

His campaign website claimed young people were being "disproportionately hit" by Government cuts.

"Young Labour should be shouting the loudest about these cuts," he said, "and I believe I have the passion, experience and ideas to lead the fight back".

Mr Darvill was chair of Swansea Labour Students from 2007-10.

At the same time he was an executive member of Swansea University Students' Union.

From 2008 to 2010 he also served on Welsh Young Labour's national committee.

“Thanks, but I am suspicious of student politicians, just look at Kinnock, Hague, Hain, or Brown if you don't believe me.
If you buy something in a shop you can look at the ingredients in the tin, if the tin has got a label but no ingredients I am cautious.”

“Another stellar career launched; more importantly what does he believe in. Some Labour Politicians have principles and believe in common ownership [socialism] but many still see themselves as "new labour" something that meant nothing at all. Where does our hero stand?”
