LLECHRYD and Crymych suffered setbacks to their Pembrokeshire Cricket League division three promotion hopes as both went down to defeat on Saturday.

The Preselimen lost by eight wickets at Pembroke Dock, while the Teifi Valley villagers suffered a three-wicket defeat at the hands of leaders Lamphey.

Batting first, Crymych struggled against accurate bowling by Nick Daley (3-13) and Jake Davies (3-30) and the visitors were dismissed for a modest total of 105.

Andrew Thomas was the only batsman to put up any serious resistance with a fine innings of 42, while Dai Jenkins contributed 18.

In the Dock reply, Daley and Davies carried on where they left off with the ball.

Daley hit 44 and Davies 21, while there were valuable contributions from Luke Murray (24) and Peter Kingdom (14no) as they reached the target for the loss of three wickets.

Having first use of a dampish wicket, Llechryd found runs hard to come by and the total of 103-9 did not appear a winning one.

Richard Connolly was top scorer with 16. Medium-pacer Stephen Vale (3-16) was best of the Lamphey bowlers.

In reply Lamphey also struggled and had Hywel Gibbs (25no) and Grant Cole (25) to thank for getting them home by three wickets.

In division six, the games between Crymych 2nds and Fishguard 2nds and Llechryd 2nds and Lamphey 2nds were washed out by the weather.
