The West Stand main entrance will undergo a major revamp under plans submitted to Swansea Council.

SA1-based architect Powell Dobson has come up with the designs for the scheme, which was reported in yesterday's Evening Post.
Gone are the existing three pillars, to be replaced by two new ones — and a glazed entrance.

Driving the planned changes are a requirement to comply with new Premier League broadcasting arrangements for next season.
The work, if given the go-ahead by city planners, will result in a new press area to accommodate 120 journalists on a new fourth floor.
An extra 705 seats will be added, new staircases and a new hospitality area.
Kevin Matthews, senior architect at Powell Dobson, said: "The proposed new glazed entrance is intended to emphasise the movement and match-day 'buzz' as spectators enter and move about the stadium.
"This is flanked by two new stair towers required to accommodate the additional seating capacity."
The planning application would seem to indicate the club's confidence in maintaining all-important Premier League status.
With 11 matches to play, Michael Laudrup's men are 13 points clear of the relegation zone.
The League Cup-winning club has previously outlined proposals to add up to 12,000 seats to the east, north and south stands.
The current application has been welcomed by fans.
Writing on our website, www. thisissouthwales.co.uk, a reader who calls himself brochadav, said: "Any expansion has to be a good thing, we continue to grow but within affordable parameters.
"Swansea City, good for football and good for our city. Could we be any more proud of what our club has become? Huw Jenkins and the board deserve all the recognition they get."
Another scribe, Jagermeister, wrote: "Will take the stadium capacity up well over 21k, which is a very good thing without a huge outlay, and it will give the chance for people to get their hands on season tickets, as well as some more matchday tickets."
It is understood the Swans will submit a transport study, on the advice of planning officers.
Match day parking in the Landore and Plasmarl areas has caused some upset.
A resident of Dinas Street, Plasmarl, claimed the issue was a "white-hot potato".
The 43-year-old, who declined to be named, said: "It is an absolute nightmare parking around the Plasmarl area.
"Blue Badge holders park on Cwm Level Road and then walk 500 yards to the stadium. You have to walk on the road to get past the cars."

“While this small and pleasant VIP upgrade to the front entrance is welcome, I'm more interested in the expansion of the stadium to 32,000 seating capacity! Surely this has to be the priority with the waiting list the club has of 6000 season ticket holders?
Come on Swansea City Board, and Huw, let's see the colour of your money, lets have the real expansion in full swing please, or can you afford to throw away the lost revenue year after year??”

“What happened to the mooted Landore train station ? It would help with parking if there were trains helping with this. Also there is plenty of land around the stadium area that could be car parks with some investment. I think if the stadium is expanded to 33k a solution must be made for residents of Landore.”

“Kick the ****s out from morriston, though with the council install new flood defence and making them a new entrance its pretty obvious what is going to happen.
I believe the council HAS ALWAYS intended that area to be a fulltime site for many gypsies, they have threatened peniel green residents with a new camp in an obviously bad place.
My belief is they did this on purpose to make sure they get less outcry about making the existing one a full blown camp.”

“Swansea City`s Directors are to be applauded for their financial prudence.They are trying to drive the club on to greater things, so an improvement of the ground and facilities is to be welcomed. Yet they must remember and respect the opinions of people who live around the grounds. Parking could get alot worse without aditional parking space so they have a duty to work with the Council Authorities on identifying more land for parking space.”

“Most people are proud of the Swans achievement and their fantastic win in the cup game at Wembley. However, the proposed developements at the Liberty Stadium again shows that the Stadium was sited inthe wrong location. This is particularly so with regard to parking in the area and my sympatise go to the residents around the stadium. On the matter of Blue Badge Holders a parking area should be reserved for them in the parking areas already provided in the stadium, especially for those who have to use wheel chairs, or have dificulty in walking. Th Velindre site would have made a far better location.”

“Another square uninspired design in swansea. And to round it off the graphics are poor.
Jesus christ, is there some kind of protocol in swansea for designing the most mundane ugly looking structures known to man?
This is likely to last decades, this is likely to be seen by millions of visitors, lets at least give them something decent to see after the disaster of the High Street and the Hafod.
There are architects in swansea who are really letting the area down, almost EVERY SINGLE new structure I see is a right angle disaster.

“ER --- blue badge holders have to walk 500 yards? - my understanding of the blue badge is that you must have great difficulty walking at all/ be able to walk only VERY short distances so if you can do 500 yards should you have a blue badge at all? How many of these may be in receipt of DLA?”
