THE Dylan Thomas Theatre is open for business as usual, its bosses have said.

The team behind the theatre in the city's marina has issued the message to let people know the venue is continuing to operate as normal, after being contacted by people who believed its days were numbered.

The mix-up followed questions over the future of the wedding service at the nearby Dylan Thomas Centre in Somerset Place, after it emerged the venue was no longer taking bridal bookings. Dreena Morgan-Harvey, a director at Swansea Little Theatre, based at the theatre in Gloucester Place, said: "A number of people have spoken with us expressing their concern, because they thought we were closing.

"The Dylan Thomas Centre only took on the name a few years ago. Since then there has occasionally been confusion between the two venues, which can be frustrating.

"We have been the Dylan Thomas Theatre since 1979. We have a good relationship with his family; his daughter was our president until her death, and now his grandson has taken over the role. But we are definitely open for business as usual."

The next production will be by its Youth Academy, which performs Alice In Wonderland from Wednesday, July 21, to Saturday, July 24. Swansea Council has said it has no plans to close the Dylan Thomas Centre, but has stopped taking bookings for weddings, while it reviews its "provision of wedding services".
