Fallen heroes

Lance Corporal Jonathan Peter Hetherington Corporal Dean John Lance Corporal Christopher Harkett Corporal Dane Elson

The faces you see here portray the human cost of the British Forces' campaign in Afghanistan since it began in October 2001.

Among those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country is local man 22-year-old Lance Corporal Jonathan Hetherington, who grew up in Port Talbot. Jonathan died on 27 August, 2006, when Taliban insurgents attacked his platoon house. LCpl Dane Elson was killed by an explosion on July 5, 2009, on patrol in Babaji, Helmand Province. L/Cpl Chris Harkett was killed in an explosion in March, 2009, on foot patrol in Northern Helmand. Cpl Dean John was travelling in a vehicle when it was struck by an explosive device, killing him and another soldier.
