St Andrew's Church, Narberth

Cantiqua Nova are a mixed four piece vocal group who specialise in Medieval music, and music inspired by this age.

The group was founded two years ago in Bangor, where the members all studied Music at University. From the beginning, the group were keen to sing early music, and started out as a madrigal ensemble. Between them they have an extended knowledge of early music, both sacred and secular, which they use to aid their authentic performances.

The group are currently working towards a recording project, in which they will be singing one of Monteverdi‘s lesser known Masses and a new Mass composed by them collectively.

Cantiqua Nova‘s lunchtime recital, which will take place in the breath-taking acoustics of St Andrews Church, will include a variety of pieces from middle ages to present day, showcasing the origin of the term ‘a cappella’, and how it has developed in Western art music.

Their workshop (Saturday 1:30pm) will focus on music composed in and before the twelfth century, from plainchant to early polyphony – the very core of a cappella!
