Call to end violence on International Women's Day — Geraint Davies
SWANSEA West MP Geraint Davies marked International Women's Day by calling for more to be done to end violence against women and girls.
He said: "When we live in a country where 750,000 children witness acts of domestic abuse a year and a third of girls in relationships aged 13 to 17 have experienced physical or sexual violence in relationships, when one in three women will be beaten or raped in her lifetime, it's time for all of us to stand up and say enough.
"It's still the case that only one in 30 rapes ever leads to a conviction.
"This just isn't good enough."

“I suggest this gentleman gets his facts straight. For a start approximately 40% of domestic violence cases are against men. Next to his ludicrous statement on rape. For a start it is not 'one in 30 rapes ever leads to a conviction'. It is possibly one in thirty alleged rapes , but after an investigation a couple of years ago this was shown to include all those cases where someone said 'I was raped' and then changed their minds completely later on.
The conviction rate in the UK for those cases that actually go to court and are tried are about 25%, which is in line with most other countries. Considering it is such a difficult crime to prove that is a good average.
I am always against campaigns that aim to stop violence against women, children, blacks, whites or any other grouping we can come up with. Why can't we grasp the bull by the horns and work to eliminate violence against anyone?”
