Well dressed man took car for test drive - and hasn't been seen since by Junction 44 Motor Company in Skewen
POLICE are hunting for a cheeky thief who took a car for a test drive — and hasn’t been seen since.
The free car enthusiast took the vehicle for a spin from the Junction 44 Motor Company in Skewen after saying his wife had been looking at the car and he wanted to give it the once over.
When he didn’t return to the Peniel Green Road garage the alarm was raised.
Manager Ian Richards said: “He was well dressed and had a plausible story — he said he wife was looking at two cars we had, and he just wanted to try them to see what he thought.
“He went out for a test drive in one car and came back, and then went out in the second — when he didn’t return we called the police.
"We usually let drivers take out cars unaccompanied for test drives — some people find it a bit intimidating having a member of staff sitting with them, and letting them go alone puts them at ease.
"We’ll have to review that now.”
The car — a red Ford Fiesta Titanium 1.6, registration number LD58 ZNV — was taken at around 2pm on Tuesday.
It has not yet been recovered.
Also taken were a set of trade number plates used by the garage, and the car may be using those instead.
South Wales Police said they were investigating the incident, and appealed for anybody with information to come forward.
A spokesman said: “We can confirm we are investigating the theft of a motor vehicle from Junction 44 Motor Company.
“We would appeal to anyone with information about the incident — or anyone who knows the whereabouts of the vehicle — to come forward.”
