“One of these days, football watchers will realise that they are merely customers of large commercial companies.
We don't get much reaction when the CEO of Brand, Reckit & Runn plc leaves and joins Plastik-Shini-Fing inc.

It's about time that Swansea City FC started paying rent. After all, Council Tax payers footed the bill for the Liberty Stadium and we should be getting a return of some kind.”

“"It's about time that Swansea City FC started paying rent. After all, Council Tax payers footed the bill for the Liberty Stadium and we should be getting a return of some kind." - so all the money the swans have brought to the area by being in the premiership and pretty much selling out every home game has done nothing for the local economy? Nothing for local tourism? Nothing for local charities or businesses? Get a grip, I'm sure they have probably done a lot more for the local area than you even know. Thousands of fans from other teams have commented on how much they are looking forward to coming to Swansea next season and will be staying on for longer to visit the local area. Half of those people had never heard of Swansea or knew where it was before this season!Maybe you should concentrate your anger on the people who cant be bothered to work because they can get more on dole, or the people living rent free in council houses with 5 kids, no jobs and all the gadgets under the sun! Those people are the real drains on society and "tax payers", not the footballers who bring money and people to the area (and also pay council tax themselves).

Even if they aren't paying rent (which I am a bit skeptical about) they are certainly repaying the council tax payers in other ways.”

    Thank you for responding.
First of all, I'm not angry.
I am stating a case for charging rent to a multi-million pound company.
The LibDem/Ind coalition on Swansea Council (2004-2012) was extremely lax when it came to income from the users of the Liberty Stadium and I think that Council Tax payers should get more than a free comfy box for the Council Leader and Deputy.

Getting uptight over benefit claimants appears to be a national sport but, I just count myself lucky that I don't live on a pittance whilst surrounded by idiots.
Hell, if it does exist, should come after death not before.”

The subject of rent paid or unpaid by both occupiers of the Liberty Stadium has appeared many times in the past, but without resolve
I understand that the the rent in question is or should be paid to a management company appointed by our local Council to run/operate the stadium on a business footing. If no rent has been paid to this company then why has it not taken proceedings for recovery through the courts?
I have little interest in the fortunes of Swansea City AFC or the Ospreys, giving my allegience dros y bont to the Scarlets of whom the same question has been raised.
Both the Football League and the WRU have strict rules on the rendering of correct accounts to the appropriate body for scrutiny.
I did ask a while back if any one had seen the Full statement of accounts where the rent remained unpaid.No-one has responded so I assume that their remarks are without merit.
Proof my dear Watson is needed.”

“Gwyddno, you got your return from the spike in tourism money. This topic has been debated many times, you should have been here for the first one if it bothers you that much, it would have saved you having to waste your time writing about something you don't fully understand.”

From the Inside Out Swansea Website 10 June 2010: 'Swansea Stadium Management Company, formerly StadCo, and which has a 50 year lease to run the stadium is made up of the Swans, Ospreys and Swansea Council on an equal thirds basis. However, it is believed that the company has persistently failed to file accounts and that a number of stadium staff are actually council employees on 'secondment'. No rent for using the stadium has ever been paid.'

    Philosoraptor
Go on then - Explain it.
I'm fascinated by 'spikes in tourism money' - Are they similar to spikes that royalists claim that the Queen generates?”

“Excuse me, but a google search will show the Swansea tourism spiked by 10% because of the Swans being in the Premier LEague. Stop being so lazy and do your homework for a change, you moaners are always to lazy to go find the facts. Why do you even bother coming on these sites in the first place? You don't know what you are talking about so why comment at all?”

So it's ok to hire the Liberty Stadium for nothing so long as some tourists visit?
I cannot hire a room at a Council Community Centre without paying.
Maybe I should use the name 'Premier League Gwyddno'
or when they ask for money
say to them, in 'Mine All Mine' style, 'That's all right, I'm a Vivaldi!'”
