“There are alredy provisional plans by Westminster to relocate the CVLA, Patents Office & NSO out of Wales should this changes be impliment. THey have costed it and decided it would be to costly to keep them in Wales particularly when they are trying to eliminate the UK's deficit
No doubt lots more jobs will depart from Wales. Ford have plans to move out should this happen”

“The DVLA and Patent Office are profit making government agencies, Mr Evans. Hiring a few people so they can speak Welsh to small minority of people in the UK will not push it in a loss making government agency.
Additionally, with both agencies being so big... moving them would be an enormous financial burden that the UK simply cannot afford. Companies on the other hand tend have much smaller bases in any single one location unless it is their headquarters, so like you say a company like Ford would not be happy. However, neither would the economic and business ministers and we both know what order the three positions holds the most sway in politics.
The result will be that such a scheme will be enouraged, but not enforced.”

“Bob, they are profit making. They make more money through issuing of number plates, charging for licences, charging for data on those who park illegally etc than what is put in. Same for patent office. The only one who is deluded is you, never wanting to accept that something might be working.”

“Bob, the DVLA set the price of licences and details etc to cover their costs for the entire DVLA operation. The road tax is then anything made on top of that, the DVLA as a single agency ends up approximately £2.3 BILLION in 'profit' (if you could call it as such whereas really, it isn't) each year.
I hate people who talk about things they have no idea about, the same people who are too lazy to actually go and find out the information for themselves and instead go on what some anti-government newspapers spew out to incite public hate.
Tell the editor who gave you your information to start publishing everything next time.”

“There is a better case to make Spanish an official language in the USA. After all, more people in the States speak Spanish as a first language than speak English.
Numerous Bills have been presented calling for recognition of Spanish but, they are always unsuccessful. The most probable reason for rejection is the cost of writing all legislation etc., in two languages.
Some years ago, when a debating language status on Capitol Hill, a Senator said, "If English was good enough for Jesus Christ then, it's good enough for America."”

You are totally confused. The DVLA makes a loss(a small profit when government grants and loans are taking into account)
You are probably confusing revenues with profits”

“This is a proposal which needs to be properly thought out. I don't believe that it is a policy that would work in practice if it were applied universally. Clearly there is a limited number of Welsh speakers let alone those who are also qualified in various roles. We cannot simply legislate anyone's vision into being. A far more sensible idea is that if a particular provision is requested through the medium of welsh then it should be provided where reasonably practicable. Otherwise this risks becoming a massively divisive and damaging policy.
Coming back to legislation and welsh language policy - I think it's high time we had a mandate in Wales for the kind of future we want for the language. This is an issue which now stands between citizens of the principality and a can of worms is already working it's way among us. It's time to knock the controversy on the head and sort out a wide-scale consultation and referendum to provide a mandate for future legislation. We desperately need an acceptable, well thought out and cost effective language policy that regains the support of the majority and secures the future of the language in public life. If we do not do that then it will be at a terrible disadvantage going forward no mater what it's popularity is in private.”

“I agree with Jiffy. The issue will be what is considered 'reasonable'. Is it reasonable that so many children in EM schools are studying Cymraeg when there is no desire for them to do so? I hear the argument all the time "well you are in Wales", but the majority language in Wales is English. It appears that it is an 'evil' in Wales to defend one's desire to learn and be taught through the medium of English. Yet other countries this is not a determining factor.
I agree that there is a forgotten culture in Wales. The Welsh. It is time for an open debate where the English speaking British Welsh culture is celebrated also. It just had huge support across Wales for the Jubiliee.
I like this phrase - my culture defines me. Cymraeg will never define me.”

“"I like this phrase - my culture defines me. Cymraeg will never define me."
Says a poster with called Penyfai! So now we see your prejudice laid bare. It is not an evil to wish to be taught through the medium of english. Far worse evils were perpetrated upon welsh speakers in the name of education than any you wish to conjure in the current day and age against monoglot english speakers. What is particularly pernicious though is the deliberate attempt to sideline the indigenous language of Wales into obscurity under a false pretence of choice. English medium schools in wales teach only Welsh 2nd Lang precisely because they are in wales and like it or not the welsh language is part of our culture. Bilingual schools offer welsh medium options and welsh medium schools offer only welsh medium education across the board. There is ample choice for all.
Why whine about the indigenous language of the country you belong to - it defies sense! Nobody is being tortured!”

“Why force on people who do not want to learn it JW? It is a waste of time and money. Neathboy, Cymraeg is not the language of Wales. It is the language of the Cymry. Cymry and Wales mean two different things which means there are two different peoples living in Wales. Those that are Cymry and those that are Welsh. Cymraeg can not sustain itself so socialism does it for you. Now we can see what socialism brings to Europe on a daily basis.
Cymraeg is not OURS it belongs to the Cymry.”

“Neathboy, from your comments you'll be more than happy to continue to suckle from the tit of the English you claim to hate soooo much, because all your small minded, short sighted, nationalist, outlook is ever going to do is cripple and stagnate your country both morally, intellectually and economically for the foreseeable future.”

And by the way from what I have read of your comments you cant get any more small minded and short sighted than a unionist bigoted view of Wales! And its language I have friends from Australia who have read what you and other anti-backward hate themselves welsh have to say. They just say you must be embarrassed having morons talking your country and indigenous language down I just tell them we have had these self hating welsh people living here for years they are wanna be little Englanders trapped in a welsh body a bit like someone who likes dressing in women's clothing. “I am English born and brought up in wales I went to a welsh school and was taught the language because that's what happens when you move to a country with a language of its own. I'm sick of the tirade and abuse by people too lazy to learn a language that helps define a country which is so great as wales. I have many English friends who have hopped over the border because they want to live in a place that offers them warmth and care something's that have been lost in the commercial world of England.
My children speak welsh and English and are able to use both with problem. I'm successful and own a company where I employ eighty staff I've not been held back by the welsh education system.”
“The Welsh language could soon be costing every one of us a fortune.
"Welsh speakers would be able to access fully bilingual public services if new plans outlined for the language are given the go-ahead.
The Welsh language commissioner has launched a consultation into standards which public sector bodies and some companies would have to follow.
It means a Welsh speaker could expect to receive correspondence and phone calls in Welsh, along with accessing Welsh-speaking doctors and carers."
It's all very nice having a Welsh speaking doctor, nurse or carer, but forcing the NHS to employ them is going suck all the money out of the system.”
