One dead and 15 hurt in college bus collision near Pont Abraham M4 roundabout

ONE person was killed and 15 injured when a college bus taking students home collided with a car.

The emergency services were called to the A483 Pontarddulais Road, near the Pont Abraham M4 roundabout, just before 4.30pm yesterday.

Police say the driver of the car involved died at the scene, and enquiries are under way to trace the next of kin.

Fifteen passengers onboard the bus — which was carrying students from Coleg Sir Gar’s Ammanford campus — were taken to Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli and Carmarthen’s Glangwili Hospital for treatment.

All are understood to have suffered only minor injuries.

The road was closed yesterday evening.

A spokesman for Dyfed- Powys Police said: “A 52- seater bus was involved in a collision with a single car near the Pont Abraham/Llanedi junction.

“The bus was transporting students from the Ammanford campus of Coleg Sir Gar to Llanelli.

“There were 15 casualties in the bus who were taken to Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, and Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen, to be treated for their injuries.

“Sadly, the driver of the car involved was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are continuing to trace the next of kin.”

She added: “Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the police.”
