WE never see traffic wardens dealing with pavement cyclists. Why is this?

“No-one (Police, PCSOs, Wardens etc) takes action because they can't run fast enough to keep up, if they try to stop the bike they get sued for assault and false details are always provided anyway.

Complain to your MP for improved laws.”

“Why do people go on and on when the simple fact is Civil Enforcement Officers (traffic wardens) have no powers to deal with people cycling on pavements”

“and what do you guggest j t james, that they should chase after them or hide behind cars and jump out in front of them. And if they did catch anyone do you honestly think they would give up their correct names. At least with a car you have their license number with a bike you have zilch”

“Because we don't have traffic wardens any more. When traffic wardens were first brought out they were given powers under the Police Act to perform various duties which included directing traffic. Their function was to keep traffic moving safely. However the powers that be quickly realised that many wardens were telling people to move on when finding them causing an obstruction instead of ticketing them which of course meant no cash for the council - although the streets were a lot better.

So with much fanfare they announced they were decriminalising parking offences - cheers all round - and the traffic warden was being phased out and Council Parking attendants brought in instead. This meant several important changes. First off you could not be fined for a parking offence - you were given a Fixed Penalty Notice Instead. To a lot of people this didn't mean a thing but it was very important. Under British law the only people who can issue a fine are the courts, whereas just about anybody can give you a FPN, which means that no longer are you entitled to take your case to court and be given a fair hearing.

Secondly these new attendants had only one function - to grab as much cash as possible, whether the streets were unobstructed or not was of no importance. This is why you can see these attendants sneaking round the back of shops in deserted alleyways hoping to find someone parked on a faded yellow line while quite happily allowing disabled drivers cars to block the road and cause chaos.

In Carmarthenshire the only offence they have on their hand held computers is parking in a restricted area, it's probably the same in Glamorganshire, which means if you are parked on yellow lines you will get at ticket, but if you commit any other sort of traffic offence, like cycling on the pavement, they are not in the least concerned!

Sorry if the answer is a bit long but a lot of people missed the phasing out of traffic wardens and the reasons for it.”
