Midfield injury problems mount up for champions

Thursday, November 20, 2008, 09:00

LLANELLI are facing an injury crisis ahead of Haverfordwest's Welsh Premier League visit on Saturday.

Definitely ruled out are midfield pair Chris Holloway and Antonio Corbisiero, while there are doubts over three more players.

Stephen Evans has just recovered from an illness and trained for the first time yesterday, Matthew Jones has a back complaint and Jason Bowen is still struggling with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, keeper Duncan Roberts has been forced to retire because of long-standing knee problems.

The Reds head into the game after a last-gasp 3-3 draw with lowly Porthmadog that manager Peter Nicholas described as the worst performance of the season.

Llanelli needed an injury-time equaliser from Rhys Griffiths to snatch a point at The Traeth after surrendering a 1-0 lead to trail 2-1 and 3-2.

They remain second in the table, level on points with leaders Rhyl after 12 games, and would be clear at the top but for a dismal defensive record.

The Reds are easily the league's leading scorers after netting 41 times already — 12 more times than their nearest rivals.

But they have also shipped 21 goals in just 12 fixtures, 14 more than Rhyl and more than anyone else in the top half of the table.

Haverfordwest make the short trip to Stebonheath Park sixth in the table having only lost one of their last seven matches.

But they needed a last-minute leveler to prevent defeat at rock-bottom Caernarfon last Saturday.
