AM calls for dog owners' views
SWANSEA East AM Mike Hedges has encouraged dog owners to have their say on Welsh Government plans to raise breeding standards.
An eight-week public consultation is under way on the proposals, which recommend a minimum of one full-time attendant to 20 adult dogs and one part-time attendant to 10 adult dogs, and the power to give local authorities discretion when granting licenses to increase the staff-to-adult dog ratio, among other measures.
The Welsh Government said its proposals were a response to public concern over the way some dogs were bred and the conditions in which they were kept.
Mr Hedges said pets played an important part in family life. He added: "That's why it's important that we get it right when it comes to protecting and promoting animal welfare without placing any unreasonable or unnecessary burdens on breeders or dog owners."
